Bluesky Expands Community Guidelines with Detailed Rules on Child Sexual Abuse, AI Deepfakes, and Allowed Contexts

On August 14, 2025, Bluesky published an overhaul of its Community Guidelines, introducing more granular categories and detailed examples of prohibited content. The changes include (among others) additional explicit bans on:

AI-generated or animated CSAM (child sexual abuse material):

(Do not) Share any content that depicts, simulates, or is AI-generated CSAM (child sexual abuse material)—this includes illustrated or animated sexualized depictions of minors.

Deepfake or “nudify” apps:

(Do not) Uses or promotes apps or tools designed to undress or exploit individuals (e.g., “deepfakes” or “nudify” apps).

Political false information:

Do not mislead or deceive others. For example, do not post or engage in:(…) Voter suppression through false political information

Also added: Exceptions for journalism, education, art, and anti-violence advocacy when not glorifying harm.

These rules do not prevent you from posting content that involves:

  1. Journalism, Education, and Advocacy
  2. Artistic, Fictional, and Historical Expression
  3. Support, Recovery, and Mental Health

Here is the community guidelines version.
