On June 9, 2026 Anthropic updated Privacy Policy for its services including Claude AI. In the section Personal Data You Provide To Us Directly the company added a paragraph on the processing of verification data. Anthropic states that depending on the verification method the users choose to prove their age, the company can collect “an image of […] government-issued identity document and the information appearing on it (such as your ID number and date of birth); […] image in photo or video form, facial geometry templates (which may be considered ‘biometric data’ in some jurisdictions); and the result of the verification (for example, whether your age meets the applicable threshold).” (Line 35/R)

Another change in the same section concerns the use of data shared during participation in research. Added text reads as follows:
If you participate in Anthropic research studies, surveys, or interviews (for example our Anthropic Interviewer), we collect the responses you provide, associated account data, and related Technical Information. We may combine this data with other data from your account for aggregated analysis. (Line 33/R)
The publishing of the research results, according to the new version of the document, can include “aggregated, de-identified, or anonymized findings from […] research, including research into how our Services are used and AI safety research” (Line 100/R). The latter might be motivated by the recent statements of the company about potential risks of rapid and uncontrolled AI development.

Finally, a significant change appeared in the section regarding the disclosure of personal data which is now called Recipients and Third-Party Data Sources. Anthropic claims to be “not responsible for the data practices of Third-Party Services” (Line 98/R) which users access with the help of Claude and that act on the behalf of the user such as APIs or bots. The company places the responsibility on the users to familiarise themselves with Privacy Policies of the third-party services. Recently a similar addition to the Terms of Service was made by the streaming platform Twitch that distanced itself from the actions of the third-party tools.
